EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a highly recommended treatment for trauma-related difficulties – PTSD, panic disorder, depression, and anxiety.

EMDR is designed to address trauma-based memories that haven’t been processed fully by the brain and help to process them. This means that the brain is then able to move on from the trauma, without distress continuing.

The therapy is designed to engage the brain in a neutral movement, either following a hand movement or a tapping, whilst the trauma-inducing event is remembered. This helps the brain to re-connect with the body and enables trauma to leave.

You will work with your therapist to:

  • Process your traumatic memories

  • Be able to recall the event without your fight/flight/freeze response being triggered
